Internship Opportunities Available at Progress North Carolina

Progress North Carolina is looking for qualified interns to help develop and implement research-based messaging and online / earned media strategies for statewide issue campaigns which educate the public.

Organizational Summary:

Progress North Carolina is a 501(c)3 non-profit progressive communications hub which provides a unified, research-driven voice for progressive groups on the issues which matter most to North Carolinians. With aggressive traditional and online media strategies, Progress North Carolina works to promote progressive values and to hold public officials accountable. Progress North Carolina’s tactics are assertive, creative, and impactful. PNC Action is an affiliated 501(c)4 social welfare organization.

Progress North Carolina and PNC Action are committed to building an innovative and integrated coalition in North Carolina that advances progressive values and workable public policy solutions to create strong opportunities for future generations.

Progress North Carolina and PNC Action strive to meet four broad goals:

  1. Build a stronger progressive movement in NC. Progress North Carolina uses innovative online organizing and communication tactics to expand public support for progressive causes, organizations and leadership.

  2. Win advances in progressive public policy. Working closely with other progressive organizations and the net-roots community, Progress North Carolina offers concerned citizens effective, easy and fun ways to make their voices heard on critical policy decisions that impact our quality of life.

  3. Generate hard-hitting traditional and new media coverage. Progress North Carolina works to generate news coverage that shines a public spotlight on progressive solutions to real problems. We work with our extensive network of members and advisers to maintain a 24-7 rapid response media operation that pulls no punches when needs arise to push for progressive causes or hold public officials accountable.

  4. Increase civic participation and educate the public. Progress North Carolina activates our members and ensures that the progressive voice is heard on issues that matter to North Carolinians. We watchdog the actions of North Carolina elected leaders and hold officials accountable when they are working for special interests, not the public interest.


  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.

  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative team environment.

  • Ability to manage several tasks/projects concurrently and prioritize work effectively.

  • Must be a self-starter and willing to be flexible with work schedule.

  • Experience in a non-profit, political, or community organizing campaign, public relations / public affairs, or professional news outlet is a plus.
