March For Our Lives to rally in Durham this weekend

Federal legislative change takes a long time, but 100 Americans are dying from gun violence every single day. That’s why we must push powerful and influential voices — who do not reside in gerrymandered Congressional districts — to do everything they can to build safer communities with fewer guns.

That’s why gun safety groups March For Our Lives and Guns Down America are holding a rally this weekend outside a Walmart in Durham to demand the megastore stop selling guns, particularly in the aftermath of the tragedy in El Paso.

  • Walmart is the largest retailer in America. If it leans into safety, it will send a strong and unmistakable signal to the gun industry and lawmakers that Americans are demanding real change.
  • Given Walmart’s history of moving in the right direction on gun issues — it stopped selling handguns in 1993, phased out assault weapons sales in 2015, and raised the gun purchasing age in 2018 — there’s a real chance we can push the mega-store even further, particularly in the aftermath of the tragedy in El Paso.
  • Walmart employees are already staging walkouts demanding it stop selling guns, and CEO Doug McMillon is promising a “thoughtful and deliberate” response. We can do this.

If our lawmakers refuse to act on gun violence, we need to do everything we can to stop the flow of guns into our communities. Please consider attending this weekend’s rally in Durham.
