North Carolinians deserve to have their elected leaders participate in the job they were sent to Raleigh to do.

The House rules for the last session required advance notice to ensure all representatives are on the floor for crucial decisions. Speaker Moore wants to eliminate this window so that he can override Governor Cooper’s vetoes without any notice and without a democratic process.

North Carolinians deserve a transparent and accountable legislature, not political tricks and games used to enact an extreme agenda. The public has the right to know when and what legislation is being debated and voted on, and we deserve all our representatives to have a fair chance to represent us. A hastily called vote while a representative is out sick, has a family emergency, or is dealing with responsibilities back home does everyone a disservice.

The proposed House rule changes are outrageous and should not be enacted. North Carolinians deserve to have their elected leaders participate in the job they were sent to Raleigh to do. Therefore, we call on Speaker Moore to keep the process of governing fair and transparent – allowing the people’s voices to be heard through their elected representatives – as our Constitution intended. We call on Speaker Moore to stop playing games with North Carolinians’ lives.
