Naomi and Arthur Pinder
Warrenton, NC
Rain, snow, sleet or hail, I’ve never missed an election. My mother, Bertha Reid, told my what my ancestors went through, with the riots and beating and hanging. And so she said, “you go vote – I don’t care how you vote, but you get out and vote”.

What disturbs me is we’re fighting the same stuff – intimidation, stuff you see on repeat for 50 years. I hope that more good sense in government will come out, that people will continue to participate. If you can’t do anything else for your community, you can vote.
- Arthur Pinder, 65
